New Year, New Resolutions?

New Year, New Resolutions?

It’s the start of a new year, a new decade, should you be giving your life a complete overhaul? Is January 1st a good time to start? NO! .. Stop.

Whatever you did, or did not do this year, it’s done, over. You do not need a mass, overnight transformation.

Instead, can you take some time to contemplate your journey this year? What is this life but a collection of experiences that we approach with the skill, understanding and compassion that we possess in that moment? Know that all life’s experiences, occurred just as they were meant to, in order to steer you down this path, for the moments and experiences to come.

We can so easily find ourselves analysing past actions, with the beauty of hindsight, wishing we had done things differently. Instead, with patience, with love, with kindness, just observe how those experiences have altered your internal landscape and your perception of how life should be. That itself might have been the lesson.

For things to change, we have to change, for things to get better, we have to get better. When we strive to be better, everything around us improves. Mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow. Circumstances might not change us, but our reactions do, creating better moments and a happier life.

So if you feel that change is necessary, listen to your intuition, it’s incredibly powerful. You have all the answers, if you just listen… How would that change make you feel? Where do you feel it in your body? Does it have a colour? A texture?

We live in modern times where we are over stimulated. External influences, people, places, can be suffocating. What is currently demanding your attention? Take a breath, take 3 breaths… ask yourself the question, ‘how does this make me feel?’ then listen…

Know there is no one action you must commit to solely. You can make as many new decisions and take as many new actions as you want, your opportunities are limitless! If it doesn’t feel right, make another decision, take new action and keep doing so until you discover the best fit, for you, in this moment because this is the only way this change will stick. It has to be true to you. And it must be in small, considered, bite size pieces. A dramatic overhaul taken in desperation will rarely have longevity.

If you feel change in your life would be beneficial, but you’re unsure how, take a look at the energy you surround yourself with, the people, the places, are they influences that lift you up?

Start small, make choices that bring you joy and happiness; raising your vibration to a more positive plane will give you clarity, new perspective and conviction, because you’re driven by matters of the heart, rather than the mind. Instead, put yourself in a mind-set to support positivity. What lights you up, can you do more of that? Bring your awareness back to a place of love, of kindness, of gratitude.

‘Life will take you by surprise again and again. There will be great changes and it will be flat out astonishing at times. Your well laid plans will collapse, despite your good intentions. You can walk through confusion and end up grateful, for the experience to learn and grow.’

- Elizabeth Gilbert

Think small. Start with elevated emotions of love, joy, gratitude. Consider what your heart desires, explore that.

Change starts with awareness, of your journey so far, and creating space for the experiences to come. Allow it to unfold as it should and enjoy it.

As always, I am here if you would like to share.

Much love,
